The unusual shaped silver coin issued by the State of Palau for 2022, minted in the purest 99.9% silver, weighing 1 Oz and finished in Antique Standard, pays tribute to Ramses II on a scarab - the ancient Egyptian symbol of rebirth.

The reverse of the modern beetle-shaped coin is decorated with two names written in hieroglyphics, the birth name of Pharaoh Ramses II and the name that was depicted on the Pharaoh's throne. A bright red crystal is set in the centre of the scarab's shell. The top of the beetle's head depicts a crescent moon and the year of the coin's issue.
In ancient Egypt, the scarab was a sacred symbol of rebirth and eternity. This precious beetle was considered the creator of the sun itself, which is why it has such immense power. As a symbol, the scarab beetle has always accompanied the dead on their journey, and the Egyptians placed it directly on the heart of mummies as an amulet. Scarab statuettes were made of various precious metals and stones, such as gold, jade or turquoise. In everyday life, the amulet brought the Egyptians good luck, wealth and protection from evil powers.
The Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II was an admired leader of his people, both during and after his lifetime. The face of the beetle depicts the eye of the god Ra along with the Ankh or Key of Life, which transforms bodies and souls. The top depicts a scarab beetle with outstretched wings flying towards the sky. The lower part of the coin is decorated with the coat of arms of the Republic of Palau with the inscription "REPUBLIC OF PALAU" and the face value "5 DOLLARS".
