Silver Coin with Amber - Scarab
The unique silver coin issued by the State of Niue for 2022 and precisely minted by the Polish Mint from the purest 99.9% silver weighing 17.5 g represents a revered symbol from ancient Egypt - the scarab.
The reverse of the silver coin depicts the scarab in the traditional form of an amulet. The sacred beetle with outstretched wings rolls a ball which, according to the ancient Egyptians, is the source of new life and at the same time an image of the sun travelling across the sky. The ball is made of amber, the fossilized resin of prehistoric conifers growing tens of millions of years ago. The beauty of honey-yellow amber has been used by people to make amulets, jewels and other valuables since time immemorial. They have attributed to it magical healing powers that help relieve pain. Today's alternative medicine uses amber to absorb negative energy and return the body to balance.
The motif also includes a lotus flower decoration at the top. In the religious cult of plants, the lotus had a similar significance to the scarab. The flowers, which open in the morning and close for the night, are associated with the sun and symbolize creation, rebirth and regeneration. Selective colouring is applied to part of the design using digital printing techniques.
The obverse depicts a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley along with the artist's initials and inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "NIUE ISLAND", purity, denomination, year of issue and mint mark.
The coin comes in a presentation frame with a certificate of authenticity. The mintage is limited to 600 pieces for the whole world!
