Silver Coin with Turquoise - Gilded Scarab
A unique silver coin issued by New Zealand for 2017 and precisely minted by the Polish Mint from the purest 99.9% silver weighing 17.5 g is dedicated to the scarab beetle. The scarab was a symbol of reincarnation for the Egyptians. The inhabitants of ancient Egypt believed that the scarab existed only in female form and therefore thought that it emerged from itself. They considered winged scarabs to be particularly effective. Amulets in their form were placed directly on the mummies' hearts.
The reverse of the silver coin depicts a gold-plated scarab, inspired by the ancient style, with its wings outstretched. Above it is a real turquoise surrounded by a lotus flower motif. The obverse depicts a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, along with the inscriptions 'ELIZABETH II', 'NIUE ISLAND', purity, denomination, year of issue in the artist's initials and mint mark.
