The 2017 Lunar Gold Investment Coin, issued by the British Royal Mint, weighing 1 oz (31.135 g) in purity of the purest 99.99% gold in a series named after the Chinese zodiac, The Shengxiao Collection, is dedicated to the Chinese lunar sign - the Year of the Rooster.
The reverse of the coin depicts the original rooster motif (Marsh Daisy from the Lancashire region of northern England) among ten daisies. In Chinese culture, the number ten symbolizes perfection and the rooster is also the tenth animal of the zodiac. The motif is surrounded by the inscriptions "YEAR OF THE ROOSTER 2017" along with the weight, purity and Chinese character for the year of the rooster.
The obverse of the coin portrays Queen Elizabeth II looking to the right. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions "ELIZABETH'II'D'G", "REG'FID'DEF", the denomination and the initials of the artist Jody Clark "JD" below.
