Detailed description
The Shengxiao Collection - Year of the Horse 2014
The first-ever gold lunar investment coin, issued by the British Royal Mint in 2014, weighing 1 oz (31.21 g) in purity of the purest 99.99% gold in a series named after the Chinese zodiac, The Shengxiao Collection, begins with 2014 - The Year of the Horse.
The reverse of the coin depicts a horse galloping confidently on the hills of Oxfordshire, with a giant prehistoric silhouette of the White Horse of Uffington carved into the limestone hillside behind it. Above the motif is the inscription "YEAR OF THE HORSE 2014" along with the weight and purity. The Chinese character for the horse is on the right hand side.
The obverse of the coin traditionally portrays Queen Elizabeth II looking to the right of Ian Rank-Brodley. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions "ELIZABETH'II'D'G", "REG'FID'DEF", the denomination and the maker's initials "IRB" below.
