Detailed description
Series "Biblical Art" 1996 - The Song of Miriam
This exclusive gold coin, issued by the Bank of Israel in 1996, is dedicated to famous biblical events, this time the theme chosen was called Miriam and the women. The "Golden Haggadah" - one of the most important surviving Spanish manuscripts, made around 1320 - was chosen as the basis for this motif.
The coin is the third in the world's popular "Biblical Art" series and depicts on its reverse the motif of the elder sister of Moses and Aaron, the prophetess Miriam with a tambourine alongside other dancing women with drums. "Aaron's sister, Miriam the prophetess, then took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women with tambourines followed her and danced" and Miriam sang for them: "Sing unto the Lord, for he hath gloriously exalted himself, and hath swept away the horse and his rider into the sea."
The obverse depicts the national emblem of Israel above Miriam's tambourine motif, the denomination, the year of issue, the inscriptions are in English/Hebrew/Arabic: "Miriam and the Women - Golden Haggadah - Barcelona c. 1320".
The coin comes in a gift box with a certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 855 pieces for the whole world!
