Detailed description
Series "Biblical Art" 2018 - Isaac and Rebecca
This exclusive gold coin issued by the Bank of Israel in 2018 is dedicated to the biblical characters Isaac and Rebecca. The story of Isaac and Rebecca's meeting is told in the book of Genesis 24.
The coin is the twenty-second in the world's popular "Biblical Art" series, and depicts on its reverse the first meeting of Isaac and Rebekah, who is brought by Eleazer on a camel, the scene complemented by tents in the background. According to the biblical story, Abraham sent his servant Eliezer to find a wife for his son Isaac. After a long journey from Canaan, he stopped at a well to refresh himself and there met Rebekah. The woman willingly drew water from the well to politely offer it to Eliezer and his thirsty camels. This convinced Eliezer that she would be a most suitable wife for Isaac. Rebekah led Eliezer to her father Bethuel and brother Laban so that he could ask for her hand in marriage for Isaac. He received the promise, and so they set off in a caravan of camels on a journey through the Negev desert southward, back to Abraham. When Eliezer told Isaac about Rebekah's exceptional character, he took her as his wife and found comfort in her after the loss of his mother Sarah.
The obverse shows the national emblem of Israel, the denomination, the year of issue, camels and a water jug , the mintmark "מ" and the inscriptions "ISAAC A REBECCA", "GENESIS 24" (in English/Hebrew/Arabic).
The coin comes in a gift box with a certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 555 pieces for the whole world!
