Detailed description
The Great Greek Mythology series
The Polish Mint XXI comes up with the most extensive series of The Great Greek Mythology yet. The issue of this unique series is planned for 4 years and will offer a total of 36 silver selectively gilded coins in 3 different sizes. The individual coins will present us the most famous figures of Greek mythology, processed to the smallest detail thanks to the high relief design.
The ancient Greeks believed that gods had the same qualities and emotions as mortals. This is probably why Greek myths are so popular and contain a huge number of stories. In them, the gods act like humans and can be noble or vengeful, deceitful or honest. They can love and hate, envy and wish, feel anger and joy.
Each silver coin tells a fascinating story about the gods, heroes and mythical creatures of ancient Olympus.
Aphrodite
Issued by the State of Cameroon in 2022, this unique 2 Oz (62.2 g) gold-plated silver coin in the purest 99.9% silver in high relief and Antique Standard finish is the second coin in the "Great Greek Mythology" series and features Aphrodite - the Greek goddess of love, fertility and beauty.
The reverse of the coin depicts the beautiful goddess with flowing hair in which she wears a braided headdress with a shining star. The girl is dressed in a robe and holds a selectively gilded apple in her hands. She is surrounded by scenes from the sea - wild waves and dolphins jumping in them. At her left elbow is a giant sea shell. The rim of the coin is decorated with a fine mosaic resembling shells and the inscription "APHRODITE" protruding above the surface of the coin.
Aphrodite is the ancient Greek goddess of love, sexuality, fertility and beauty. As one of the most important goddesses, she is one of the twelve Olympians. This goddess became one of the most powerful goddesses because of her beauty. She was the wife of the god Hephaestus, but the god of war Ares, the god of trade Hermes, the god of the sea Poseidon and the god of wine Dionysos succumbed to her charms. In ancient art, she became perhaps the most frequently depicted figure, both in mosaics and vase paintings and in sculptures and reliefs. She is an integral part of the stories of Greek mythology, and in Roman mythology she is identified with Venus. The ancient Greeks dedicated several animals to her: the dolphin, the dove, the sparrow and the swallow, as well as some plants: the poppy, the pomegranate, the myrtle and the rose.
The obverse of the coin depicts the Temple of Zeus in ancient Olympia surrounded by a laurel wreath. The year of issue is written above the upper part of the wreath, and the purity of the coin at the bottom. The rim of the coin is decorated with a typical Greek design with the inscription "REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN", the face value, year of issue and weight. Two ancient columns intersect the centre of the rim.
The coin is supplied in a luxury wooden box with a certificate of authenticity, in a limited edition of only 500 pieces for the whole world!
