Detailed description
Assassins - Knights Templar 2 Oz
An exclusive silver coin issued by the State of Niue in 2021 in ultra-high relief weighing 2 Oz (62.2 g), in the purest 99.9% silver purity with Antique Standard finish, is part of the Assassins edition. The second coin in the series represents the legendary Knights Templar.
The reverse of the coin depicts a pair of knights charging into attack in high relief. The Knights Templar are depicted in full armour with their characteristic crosses on their chests and on the hilts of their swords. The banner of the Order flies above the rider in the background. The knight in the foreground clutches a sword with a gilded blade. The background of the coin is a backdrop of a medieval castle with a drawbridge lowered. The description on the rim states the name of the coin 'KNIGHTS TEMPLAR'. It is followed by the motto of the Templars "NON NOBIS DOMINE, NON NOBIS, SED NOMINI TUO DA GLORIAM" ("Not for us Lord, not for us, for the glory of Your name!") and the motto of St. Benedict of Nursia "ORA ET LABORA" ("Pray and work!").
The Order of the Knights Templar was founded around 1120 to protect pilgrims on their journey to Jerusalem. The recruitment of new members led to the rapid growth of the Order, which became involved in the Crusades and became the protector of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. As the Poor Knights of Christ and Solomon's Temple, they were only allowed to own a sword and therefore all property acquired belonged to the Order. Due to their immense wealth, they provided financial and banking services and as a military force they served only the Pope. They wielded great influence and independence, which incurred the displeasure of the secular rulers. The abolition of the Order was led by the French King Philip IV. He was subsequently joined by the Pope himself. On Friday, October 13, 1307 (hence the superstition of Unlucky Friday), there were widespread arrests throughout France. The Templars were accused of heresy and sodomy and tried in trials lasting another seven years. After forced confessions, they were imprisoned or burned at the stake. Their property was confiscated by the king's agents and some of it given to the Order of the Jahanites.
The obverse of the coin is decorated with floral ornaments and small crosses of the Order. Two important elements associated with the Order are incorporated into this frame. Two swords and an emblem belonging to the Templars. The inner cut-out contains a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain with information about the purity of the metal. The inscription "ELIZABETH II", the denomination "5 DOLLARS", the issuer and the year of issue "NIUE 2021" are included in the description.
The coin comes in its original box with a certificate of authenticity, limited to 999 pieces for the whole world! Only 499 pieces will go to the collectors market, the rest is for those interested in the subject, fans of history, games and characters.
