Perth Mint - producer of investment gold and silver
About the Perth Mint
The Government of Western Australia owns the Perth Mint. It is famous for producing the world's largest gold coin, weighing one tonne, 12 centimetres thick and 80 centimetres in diameter. Its face value is one million Australian dollars. The motifs of the coins minted by the Australian Mint reflect their place of origin. They feature koalas, kangaroos and kingfishers. Seventeen million coins and bullion bars are sold annually to 130 countries around the world. They pride themselves on the ethical sourcing of precious metals.
History
Named after the city in which it is located, the Australian Mint has an adventurous story. It was founded in the last year of the 19th century in the heat of the gold rush that broke out in Western Australia to accelerate the minting of gold coins by the British monarchs. It was the last of the three Australian colonial branches after the now defunct Sydney Mint and Melbourne Mint. Since 1970 it has been under the government of the State of Western Australia. The world's mints take its precious metal blanks from Australia for their further processing, mainly into investment gold. Every bullion bar, coin and any other product is guaranteed by the Western Australian government. It processes 250 tonnes of silver and 300 tonnes of gold each year.
Gold bullion
Pert Mint has been refining gold for over 120 years. The 24 carat gold bars meet the strict standards of the London Good Delivery Exchange, making them exchangeable across the planet. Australian investment gold bars are characterised by the swan on the front, which marks the Pert Mint refinery logo. Other details are the grammage and identification number.
