Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle 2022
A silver investment coin issued by the Perth Mint in 2022 in the finest 99.99% pure silver, weighing 1 Oz (31.1 g). The Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle motif was launched by the Perth Mint in January 2014 and the design of the Wedge-tailed Eagle has been updated each year thereafter.
The reverse of the coin shows a close-up view of the raptor's head. It depicts a typically flat skull and a strong curved beak, which makes it easier to tear meat from prey. The description includes the inscription 'AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE', issue details, weight, fineness and the Perth Mint's 'P' mint mark. A small mark of the designer "JM" is included.
The wedge-tailed eagle, found mainly in Australia, is one of the largest eagle species with a wingspan of up to 2.5 metres. It is easily identified by the specific appearance of its tail feathers arranged in a wedge shape.
The obverse shows a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark with the initials 'JC' and the inscriptions 'ELIZABETH II', 'AUSTRALIA' and the denomination '1 DOLLARS'. The coin has the status of Australian legal tender.
The coin comes in a protective plastic capsule and is limited to a mintage of only 50,000 worldwide!
