Perth Mint investment coins are among the most popular investment coins in the world. In 2018, the Perth Mint has decided to include its next investment coin in the investment metals market, a 1 ounce (31.1 g) coin of the purest 99.99% gold, dedicated to the Australian Emu.
The reverse of the gold investment coin features an emu bird walking across the Australian savannah, surrounded by the inscription "AUSTRALIAN EMU" and the Perth Mint's mintmark "P" for issue, weight, fineness and purity.
The Australian emu (brown emu - Dromaius novaehollandiae) is the second largest flightless bird in the world, found in abundance throughout most of Australia. Emus are omnivores, but mostly feed on berries and seeds. In the wild they live for ten years, in captivity for up to 35 years.
The obverse of the coin traditionally shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian-Rank Broadly and the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "AUSTRALIA" and the face value. The coin has the status of Australian legal tender.
