Australian Emu 2022
A silver investment coin issued by the Perth Mint in 2022 in purity of the purest 99.99% silver weighing 1 Oz (31.1 g). The Australian Emu investment coin was launched by the Australian Mint in 2018. Their above-average quality will appeal to discerning investors and collectors who can appreciate the limited mintage and original theme for each issue.
The coin features a pair of emu birds on its reverse. The first individual is looking for food on the bank of a river. The second emu in the foreground is depicted only in close-up of the head with its characteristically ruffled feathers. The description includes the inscription "AUSTRALIAN EMU", the year of issue and weight and purity data. Also included are the mint mark "P" and the initials of the maker "NH".
The Australian emu (brown emu - Dromaius novaehollandiae) is the second largest flightless bird in the world, found in abundance throughout most of Australia. Emus are omnivores, but mostly feed on berries and seeds. They live for ten years in the wild and up to 35 years in captivity.
The obverse shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark with the initials "JC" and the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "AUSTRALIA" and the face value. The coin has the status of Australian legal tender.
The coin comes in a protective plastic capsule and is limited to a mintage of only 30,000 worldwide!
