Detailed description

Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle 2026

A silver investment coin issued by the Perth Mint for the year 2026 in the purity of the purest 99.99% silver and weighing 1 Oz (31.1 g). The Wedge-tailed Eagle motif was first introduced by the Perth Mint in January 2014 and has been changing its appearance every year since then.

The reverse of the coin depicts a view of the heads of a wedge-tailed eagle (in the foreground) and a bald eagle (in the background) looking to the right from John M. Mercanti. The motif includes the mint mark “P” and the initials of the author “JM”. The description of the coin includes the inscription “AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE”, the year of issue and information on the weight and purity of the metal.

The wedge-tailed eagle (Aquila audax) is a raptor belonging to the largest eagles in the world. Adults have a wingspan of up to 2.5 meters and can weigh up to 5 kilograms. It has a characteristic wedge-shaped tail, which is best recognized during flight, and its color is mainly dark brown to black, with slightly golden tones on the head and neck. These predators are found mainly in Australia and adjacent islands, where they prefer various habitats - from open plains, savannahs, to mountainous areas. It is very adaptable, which allows it to inhabit even arid areas. Thanks to its strong beak and sharp claws, it is able to hunt even larger animals.
The bald eagle is a predator native to North America and the national symbol of the United States of America. We can recognize it by its white head and tail, which contrast with its dark brown body. It lives near rivers and lakes, where it mainly hunts fish. Its wingspan can exceed two meters. Thanks to nature conservation, its population has recovered significantly after a decline in the 20th century.

The obverse features a portrait of King Charles III by Dan Thorne with the initials “DT”. The rim of the coin features the inscriptions “CHARLES III”, “AUSTRALIA” and the face value “1 DOLLAR”. The coin is Australian legal tender.

The coin comes in a protective plastic capsule and its mintage is limited to 50,000 pieces worldwide!
