Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle 2021
A silver investment coin issued by the Perth Mint in 2021 in the finest 99.99% pure silver, weighing 1 Oz (31.1 g). The Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle motif was launched by the Perth Mint in January 2014 and the design of the Wedge-tailed Eagle has been updated each year thereafter.
On its reverse, the coin continues the pictorial story of the majestic wedge-tailed eagle. The 2019 motif features the raptor searching for food, the 2020 motif shows it swooping down on its prey, and in 2021 it flies away with a snake in its talons. The animated scene captures a moment of mutual evaluation between the predator and its prey. The description includes the inscription "AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE", issue details, weight, fineness and the Perth Mint's "P" mint mark. Included is a small design mark "JM" placed on the body of the reptile.
The wedge-tailed eagle, found mostly in Australia, is one of the largest eagle species with a wingspan of up to 2.5 metres. It is easily identifiable by the specific appearance of its tail feathers arranged in a wedge shape.
The obverse features a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark with the initials 'JC' and the inscriptions 'ELIZABETH II', 'AUSTRALIA' and the denomination '1 DOLLAR'. The coin has the status of Australian legal tender.
The coin comes in a protective plastic capsule and is limited to a mintage of only 50,000 worldwide!
