Noah's Ark Silver Bullion
The Noah's Ark silver bullion coin is made of 99.9% silver. The coin is issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia and minted by the German company Geiger Edelmetalle AG. It was first introduced in July 2011 in 1/2 oz, 5 oz, 10 oz, 1 kg and 5 kg sizes. The coin was designed by Eduard Kurghinyan, who was inspired by chapters 7-8 of the Book of Genesis about the Flood.
The reverse of the silver coin depicts a white dove with an olive branch returning to the floating ark. In the background is the sacred Mount Ararat with the rising sun. The coin's description includes the inscriptions "Noah's Ark" in English and "Նորայի դավաներ" (Noyi tapany) in Armenian.
Noah's Ark is a famous biblical story from the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament. According to the Bible, God ordered the righteous Noah to build a huge wooden ship – the ark – to save his family and all the animals from the great flood that was to cleanse the world of sins. After 40 days of rain and many months on the water, Noah released birds from the ark to see if the water had receded. The white dove, which Noah sent as a scout, returned empty-handed the first time, and the second time it brought a fresh olive branch in its beak – a symbol that the water had receded and the earth was beginning to renew itself.
The obverse of the silver coin depicts the national emblem of Armenia, the weight, fineness, and nominal value, and the mark of Geiger Edelmetalle AG. The rim of the coin features the inscription "REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA" and its transcription into Armenian.
