The exclusive silver coin issued by the island state of Tokelau and minted by the Bratislava Pressburg Mint in 2023 in Proof-like quality and purity of the purest 99.99% silver, weighing 1 Oz (31.1 g), depicts one of the meanings of the word icon through the portrait of Elizabeth II.
The reverse side of the coin depicts the face of Queen Elizabeth II, who as Britain's longest reigning monarch has become an icon of majesty for many generations. The coin's design incorporates a geometric texture that houses the inscription "ICON" divided into two lines. The edge of the coin is bordered by a fine dotted border creating plasticity.
The word icon comes from the Greek word EIKON and means image. The word today no longer denotes only a religious image of the Orthodox Church, but is used for a variety of other figurative meanings. A famous person may be characterized as an icon, or adding the attribute iconic to the name of an object will emphasize its importance and significance.
The obverse side of the coin bears the Niue state emblem, which is complemented by the inscription "NIUE 2023" and the face value "2 DOLLARS".
