The exclusive silver coin issued by the island state of Tokelau and minted by the Bratislava Pressburg Mint in 2022 in Proof-like quality and purity of the purest 99.99% silver, weighing 1 Oz (31.1 g), depicts one of the meanings of the word icon through the portrait of Marilyn Monroe.
The reverse side of the coin depicts the face of Marilyn Monroe, the Hollywood star of the 1950s and 1960s who remains an iconic sex symbol and immortal acting legend to this day. The coin's design incorporates a geometric texture that hides the inscription "ICON" divided into two lines. The edge of the coin is surrounded by a fine dotted border creating plasticity.
The word icon comes from the Greek word EIKON and means image. The word today no longer denotes only a religious image of the Orthodox Church, but is used for a variety of other figurative meanings. A famous person may be characterized as an icon, or adding the attribute iconic to the name of an object will emphasize its importance and significance.
The obverse bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian-Rank Broadley and the year of issue "2022" divided into tens. Around the perimeter of the coin are the inscriptions " TOKELAU", "5 DOLLARS", "1 OZ FINE SILVER" and "ELIZABETH II". The background of the coin is a dotted texture based on the design of the border on the reverse side of the coin.
The coin comes in a plastic capsule in a limited mintage of only 30,000 pieces for the whole world!
