Wildlife in the Moonlight: Green Mamba
This exclusive gold-plated silver coin, minted in 2022 and weighing 2 Oz (62.2 g) in the finest 99.9% pure silver with Antique Standard finish, is part of the Wildlife In The Moonlight series, which captures wildlife by moonlight in an original way. The fifth coin in the series features the Green Mamba (Dendroaspis viridis).
The reverse design depicts the Mamba in its typical habitat, wrapped around a tree branch. On the coin you can see a detailed rendering of every fold of the snake's skin as well as the delicate leaves of the ferns and tree bark. The design also includes a full moon with selective gilding and the coin's name "GREEN MAMBA" in English and "DENDROASPIS VIRIDIS" in Latin.
The green mamba or also West African mamba is a long, slender, bright green coloured tree snake found in West Africa. The average length of an adult is between 1.4 and 2.1 metres. It is a very fast, agile and aggressive snake that hunts its prey (birds, small mammals, frogs, reptiles) in the treetops and on the ground. It avoids confrontation with humans and is only dangerous if it has no escape.
The obverse shows the traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain , the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "NIUE " and the face value "5 DOLLARS", the year of issue 2022, the purity data and the weight 2 Oz.
