Australian Kookaburra 2023
The Australian Kookaburra gold investment coin was issued by the Perth Mint for 2023, weighing 1/10 Oz in purity of the purest 99.99% gold. As an investment coin, the 1/10 Oz gold version of the kingfisher was first minted in 2020 to mark the 30th anniversary of the silver Kookaburra investment coins. The motif of the silver and gold coins is identical in that year.
Kookaburra silver investment coins are among the most popular in the world with a history dating back to 1990. The annual change of the motif increases the numismatic value of the coins issued.
The reverse depicts the Australian Kookaburra in the form chosen for 2023. The design by Wade Robinson depicts two individuals of the giant kingfisher on the branches of a waratah bush with its distinctive spherical flowers. The circle includes the inscription "KOOKABURRA", the year of issue, weight and purity information, the mint mark "P" and the artist's initials "WR".
The obverse bears a portrait of Elizabeth II by Jody Clark, accompanied by the inscriptions 'ELIZABETH II', 'AUSTRALIA' and the face value. The coins have the status of Australian legal tender and come in a protective plastic capsule.
