Detailed description
Australian Kookaburra 2026 1/10 Oz
The gold investment coin is issued by the Perth Mint in 2026 and minted in the purity of the purest 99.99% gold weighing 1/10 Oz (3.11 g). The Australian Kookaburra motif was introduced by the Australian Mint in 1990 and has changed the form of the kingfisher every year since then (with the exception of the anniversary issue in 2015). The original motif for each issue increases the numismatic value of the coins issued.
The reverse of the gold coin represents the Australian Kingfisher (Kookaburra) in the form chosen for the year 2026 by Wad Robinson. The author of the design captures the kingfisher in flight on the coast of its homeland. The motif includes the mint mark "P" and the author's initials "WR". The description of the coin includes the inscription "KOOKABURRA", the year of issue "2026" and information on the weight and purity of the metal.
The kookaburra is an iconic Australian bird, belonging to the kingfisher family, although you will hear it more often than you see it. Its stocky body, strong beak and inconspicuous colouring perfectly camouflage the kingfisher in the crowns of eucalyptus trees, where it spends most of the day. It feeds mainly on insects, lizards, snakes and small mammals and plays an important role in the ecosystem as a natural pest regulator.
Celebrated for its cackle call that echoes through the Australian bush at dawn, the kookaburra is known as the "bushman's clock" for its morning song. This loud, laughter-like call is not only a sound backdrop to the morning, but also a way for the birds to mark out their territory and strengthen social bonds within the group. Interestingly, kookaburras often live in family clans, where the offspring stay with their parents and help raise the next generation. Thanks to their adaptability, they have spread to city parks and gardens, where they quickly became accustomed to the proximity of humans.
The obverse of the gold coin bears a portrait of King Charles III by Dan Thorne with the author's initials "DT", which is complemented by the inscriptions "CHARLES III", "AUSTRALIA" and the nominal value. The coins have the status of Australian legal tender and are supplied in a protective plastic capsule.
