Detailed description

The Egyptian Relic - Chariot of War

The silver investment coin issued by the Republic of Chad for 2020 and minted by the Scottsdale Mint in the finest 99.9% pure silver, weighing 5 Oz (155.52 g) with a hand-brushed antique finish, is part of The Egyptian Relic series. A war chariot was chosen for the coin's motif, the design of which is based on ancient Egyptian wall reliefs.

The reverse of the coin depicts an Egyptian pharaoh in the form of an archer on a chariot drawn by a two-wheeled chariot. The supreme status of the ruler is determined by the crown of the hephares. The headdress, reserved for the ruler, is sometimes referred to as a war crown. It is necessarily accompanied by the ureus, a headdress with an erect cobra, which is a symbol of royal power. The manner in which the chariot is driven in battle is clearly visible in the scene. The reins are tied around the archer's body to keep both hands free for shooting.
Ancient Egyptians used chariots in wars, hunts and ceremonial processions. They were a favourite subject for artists of the time, recording famous battles and the bravery of the pharaoh in battle with the enemy. Several wooden parts of the war chariots have survived to the present day. Six dismantled chariots were found in King Tutankhamun's tomb from 3,300 years ago. The most famous and largest chariot battle in human history was the Battle of Kadesh under Ramesses II. Over 5,000 chariots took part in the war between Egypt and the Hittites. The outcome of the battle, dated around 1274 BC, is known only that both opposing sides were declared the victors.

The obverse of the coin bears the national emblem of the Republic of Chad surrounded by the inscription "REPUBLIQUE DU CHAD", the weight and fineness, the year of issue and the face value.
