Detailed description
The Egyptian Relic - Ramesses II - after life
Issued by the Republic of Chad in 2017 and struck by the Scottsdale Mint in the finest 99.9% pure silver, this two ounce (62.2 g) silver investment coin with a hand-brushed antique standard finish is issued in The Egyptian Relic series. This time the coin is dedicated to the Egyptian pharaoh of the New Kingdom period, Ramesses II (reign 1279-1213 BC).
Ramesses II is considered one of the most powerful pharaohs of the Egyptian Empire. His reign, which lasted nearly 70 years, helped shape Egyptian culture, architecture, and religion. Militarily and diplomatically, he restored the borders of the empire, which led to security and increased trade and throughout Egypt. After his death, he was laid to rest in a tomb in the Valley of the Kings, and today his mummy rests in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
On its reverse side, the coin depicts Ramesses II, whose face is replaced by a skull. The portrait of the pharaoh contains the signs of royal power - an artificial beard and a veil of heaven, which is complemented by a cobra in a fighting position (ureus). The background is a wall with a hint of hieroglyphs. The surface of the whole coin is covered with small cracks symbolizing the tooth of time. Above the pharaoh's head is the inscription "RAMESSES II".
The obverse side of the coin depicts the national emblem of the Republic of Chad surrounded by the inscriptions 'REPUBLIQUE DU CHAD', the weight, purity, year of issue and face value.
