Detailed description
Six Decades of 007 - Bond Films of the 1980s
The 1 Oz (31.1g) silver investment coin, issued by the Royal British Mint for 2025 in 99.9% purest silver, is part of the "Six Decades of 007" series, which celebrates the unique phenomenon associated with the character of James Bond over seven issues. The third coin in the series is reminiscent of the Bond films of the 1980s.
The coin is an officially licensed product produced in collaboration with the James Bond film production company (EON Productions Limited and Danjaq). The mintage is limited to 100,000 pieces worldwide.
The coin's reverse reflects the next era of James Bond through the unforgettable motorboat from the film ‘The World Is Not Enough’, which Q prepared for his fishing-filled retirement. In addition to a GPS navigation system, the speedboat was equipped with several torpedoes and an instant dive system. After an unexpected explosion in an MI6 building, James Bond uses the speedboat to chase the killer down the River Thames. During the chase, the boat passes under bridges, through markets and along the road. At the end of the chase, the boat is unfortunately destroyed when it runs aground and is subsequently hit by a hot air balloon, during which the agent jumps out and gets caught in the rope. The coin's motif is complemented by the 007 logo, and the background represents the third decade of Bond films with a collage of all the 1990s titles, of which the title ‘THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH’ stands out. The view of the central motif is framed by a view through the barrel of a gun, an integral part of any film opening. The coin's name ‘Bond of the 1990s’, the year of issue ‘2025’ and the purity and weight of the metal are shown at the edge of the coin in the form of micro text, which also serves as a security feature.
James Bond is a legendary British secret service agent. Over six decades, he has undergone countless changes and developments with each actor, but his audience appeal remains constant. The concept of 007 transcends time and the hero's name is still associated with style, action and courage. Commemorating the Bond phenomenon is not only a celebration of one agent, but also a celebration of cinema and an iconic character that has become a distinct part of pop culture.
The obverse of the coin bears the first coin portrait of Charles III designed by Martin Jennings with the artist's initials ‘MJ’. The description of the coin states ‘CHARLES III - D - G - REX - F - D’ and the face value.
