Equilibrium 2020 - Proof-like
The exclusive silver coin issued by the island state of Tokelau and minted by the Bratislava Pressburg Mint in 2020 in Proof-like quality and purity of the purest 99.9% silver, weighing 1 Oz (31.3 g), is the third coin of the Equilibrium series, which presents a theme based on the harmony and balance of human labour and machine work.
Released in 2018, the coins in this series work in a pictorial way with the idea of harmony between technology and nature, civilization and the environment, money and time, work and rest, and artificial and human intelligence.
On its reverse side, the coin depicts the traditional symbol of Chinese philosophy, the Yin and Yang, held together by a human hand and a robot hand. The involvement of human and robot hands in one activity expresses the necessary balance in the division of tasks. The rim of the coin is decorated with a delicate design, which is interrupted by the inscription "EQUILIBRIUM" and the denomination "5 DOLLARS".
In some industries, machines often replace human labour. On the one hand, automated production and robotics are eliminating old jobs, but at the same time they are creating new ones. In some cases, human manual labour is still irreplaceable. Similarly, the introduction of automated machine production increases productivity and efficiency. Nevertheless, when establishing new working practices, care must be taken to balance cooperation between humans and machines.
The obverse of the coin bears in its centre a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain by Ian-Rank Broadley, the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "TOKELAU", the weight and fineness data "1OZ FINE SILVER 999" and the year of issue "2020" divided into tens. Eight trigrams from Chinese culture follow. Composed in a hexagram, the trigrams represent the eight basic elements of nature. The background of the coin is an undulating pattern that transitions into the subtle pattern used on the reverse.
