Detailed description
King Charles III. Coronation
The exclusive silver gold-plated coin, issued by the State of Niue for 2023 and minted in the finest 99.9% pure silver, weighing 31.1 g (1 Oz) in Proof quality, is dedicated to the coronation of King Charles III.
The reverse of the coin bears the motif of the Crown of St. Edward, gilded in 24 kt gold. The crown is flanked by a beaded circle, which is intersected by the coronation sceptres (a sceptre with a dove and a sceptre with a cross) in the background. A ribbon winds around the visible ends of these jewels, bearing the inscriptions ''KING CHARLES III'', ''LOYALTY'', ''RESPECT'' and ''LOVE'', which symbolise the promise made by the King on his accession to the throne. The rim of the coin is then decorated with the official emblems of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - a walking lion (more precisely a leopard), the lion of Scotland, the harp of Northern Ireland and the heraldic emblem of the Tudor rose. The edge of the coin is again gilded with 24 kt gold.
King Charles III was crowned on 6 May 2023, making him the 40th monarch in English history. The ceremony was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the highest ranking cleric of the Church of England, of which the monarch is the official head. The coronation ceremony had already begun at Buckingham Palace, from where the king and his consort departed in the state's gold and black carriage, which was made in 2012 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne. The journey took them along St James's Park to Trafalgar Square and then through Whitehall straight to Westminster Abbey, where the actual coronation took place. Meanwhile, clergy, members of the Royal Family, members of the Government and Parliament, representatives of Commonwealth countries and other guests were already gathered in the Cathedral for the singing of the Psalm.
At the ceremony itself, the monarch is anointed with sacred oil and presented with the royal insignia, including the Crown of St Edward. Bells are then rung throughout the country and ceremonial salutes are given. The clergy and members of the royal family pay homage to the King and swear their allegiance. The ceremony concludes with the national anthem ''God Save the King'', during which the monarch leaves the chapel to return to the palace, where he and other members of the family traditionally appear on the balcony to greet the people.
The obverse bears the coat of arms of the State of Niue in its centre with the inscriptions 'PUBLIC SEAL OF NIUE' at the top and 'ATUA NIUE TUKULAGI' at the bottom. The weight and fineness information and the face value are surrounded by a pearl border and enclosed by the official emblems of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Tudor rose and the year of issue ''2023''.
The coin comes in a deluxe box with a certificate of authenticity, limited to only 1000 pieces worldwide!
