Detailed description
5 Kg Silver Coin - National Aboriginal Veterans Monument
Following the tremendous success of the first and second 5 Kg coins, The Spirit of Haida Gwaii and Emily Carr, the Royal Canadian Mint is releasing its third silver coin exclusively for 2014, weighing 5 Kg and measuring 180 mm in absolute purity of the purest 99.99% silver in top proof quality, dedicated to the National Aboriginal Veterans Monument (National Aboriginal Veterans Monument) by sculptor Noel Lloyd Pinay, which commemorates the actions of all Canada's Aboriginal peoples in war and peacekeeping operations from the First World War to the present day. The monument was first unveiled in Ottawa on June 21, 2001.
The reverse of the coin features a detailed engraving of the monument in very high relief.
As on the monument itself, the motif is crowned by an eagle with outstretched wings, known as the Thunderbird. The eagle symbolizes the Creator and embodies the spirit of Canada's indigenous people. Below the eagle stand four human figures, each (on the monument) looking to one side of the world: First Nations Man, Inuit, Métis and First Nations Woman. The four human figures are complemented by four animals - spirit guides - who stand guard at the four corners at the base of the monument: wolf, bear, deer and bison. Each of these creatures has characteristics that are held in high esteem by the native warriors. The bear provides great strength and healing powers. The wolf intelligence, courage and love of family. Deer also known as wapiti, are respected for their speed, keen senses and strength in battle. Bison provides strength and stability.
The motif is framed by a circle with the inscription "CANADA". The initials of the artist "NLP" are placed on the left below the bison. The obverse depicts the traditional portrait of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, the denomination, year of issue, weight and purity.
Each coin comes in a luxurious walnut wood gift box in an acrylic glass presentation display along with a numbered and illustrated certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 150 pieces for the entire world!
