5 Kg Silver Coin - Emily Carr - Tsatsisnukomi
Following the huge success of the first 5 Kg coin, The Spirit of Haida Gwaii, the Royal Canadian Mint has released a beautifully crafted second 5 Kg silver coin, 180 mm in diameter and graded 99 absolute fineness, exclusively for 2013.99% of the purest silver in a top quality proof dedicated to one of Canada's most important and one of the first female artists - Emily Carr (1871 - 1945), who captured the culture of Canada's indigenous people with her modern and post-impressionist paintings.
The reverse of the coin depicts the detailed motif of the 1912 painting in very high relief - an Indian totem - a mystical Tsatsisnukomi bird figure on a "wooden" background. The central motif is framed by a circle with the inscriptions "CANADA", "EMILY CARR", "1871 - 1945" on a background imitating the characteristic cross-section of cedar most commonly used by Native Americans to make totems. The obverse depicts the traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, the denomination, year of issue, weight and purity.
Each coin comes in a deluxe walnut wood gift box in an acrylic glass presentation display along with a numbered and illustrated certificate of authenticity (photographs by Emily Carr, several photographs of paintings, etc...) in a limited edition of only 100 pieces for the entire world!
