Australian Kookaburra 2023
The Australian Kookaburra gold investment coin has been issued by the Perth Mint for 2024 in 1/10 Oz purity of the purest 99.99% gold. As an investment coin, the 1/10 Oz gold version of the kingfisher was first minted in 2020 to mark the 30th anniversary of the silver Kookaburra investment coins. The motif of the silver and gold coins is identical in that year.
Kookaburra investment coins are among the most popular in the world with a history dating back to 1990. The annual change of the motif increases the numismatic value of the coins issued.
The reverse features the Australian kingfisher (Kookaburra) in the form chosen for 2024 by Sean Rogers. The design depicts the kingfisher in flight as it carries its prey to its nest. The design includes the inscription "KOOKABURRA", the year of issue, the weight and purity of the metal, the artist's initials "SR" and the mint mark "P125". The number 125 symbolizes the 125th anniversary of the mint.
The obverse bears the portrait of King Charles III by Dan Thorn with the initials of the author "DT". The description of the coin states the inscriptions "CHARLES III", "AUSTRALIA" and the face value "15 DOLLARS".
The coins have Australian legal tender status and come in a protective plastic capsule.
