Detailed description

Australia's Coat of Arms 2022

A gold investment coin minted by the Royal Australian Mint in 2022 in purity of the purest 99.99% gold, weighing 1 Oz, as part of the Australia's Coat of Arms series. The second coin in the series is inspired by the coat of arms of the Australian state of New South Wales.

The original design of the investment coins was created by Aaron Baggio, who developed the motif for both the reverse and obverse sides of the coin. Each side of the coin features one of the shield bearers in the coat of arms of the Australian state of New South Wales. The lion is also the heraldic animal in the shield of the same coat of arms.

The reverse side of the coin depicts a kangaroo as the shield-bearer of the coat of arms, which in this concept contains the face value "100 DOLLARS". The Farmers' State is characterised by ears of wheat and a pair of Merino sheep. Both endemic and floral, the distinctive globular flowers of the Waratah bush (Telopea speciosissima) are a feature of New South Wales. The sunrise is located at the bottom edge of the coin and the scroll with the state name 'NEW SOUTH WALES' passes through its rays. The design includes the maker's mark.
The State Emblem of New South Wales came into force by Royal Warrant of Edward VII in 1906. The coat of arms symbolises a new nation in a new land, jointly formed by colonists with British roots and the indigenous people.
The coat of arms refers to the constellation of the Southern Cross and its central importance in the country's maritime history in the southern hemisphere. The white cross of the constellation on a blue field was one of the earliest coats of arms used in Australia. In the coat of arms of New South Wales, it is superimposed by the red cross of St George from the flag of the British Royal Navy. Each arm of the cross bears a golden eight-pointed star from the constellation of the Southern Cross. The lion in the centre of the cross was taken from the trio of lions in the arms of England. It expresses the origin and at the same time declares the independence of the Australians. The cross divides the shield into four quadrants. The first and fourth quadrants contain a golden fleece and the second and third a sheaf of wheat. These elements have a multi-layered meaning. They refer to mythology and the virtues of chivalry, but are also symbols of pastoralism and agriculture. The sun rising above the shield conveys hope for the future. The national motto 'ORTA RECENS QUAM PURA NITES' is represented by a ribbon at the bottom of the coat of arms, which is supported by two shield bearers. The lion on the left is referred to as the British lion and draws on the heraldry of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. The kangaroo on the right represents Australia and its unique character.

The obverse of the coin depicts a lion against a background of the St George's Cross with eight-pointed stars. The tail of the lion partially forms a stem for the stylised flowers. The lower right field of the cross contains the national motto in English "NEWLY RISEN, HOW BRIGHTLY YOU SHINE". The left shoulder of the cross gives the weight and purity of the metal "1 OUNCE .9999 AU". Under the protection of the lion is the traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the initials of the artist Jody Clark. The portrait is accompanied by the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "AUSTRALIA" and the year of issue "2022".

The coin has the status of Australian legal tender and comes in a protective plastic capsule. The mintage is limited to just 5,000 pieces worldwide!
