Detailed description
Kost Castle
In a valley of sandstone rocks in the Bohemian Paradise is one of the most beautiful and best preserved Gothic castles in the Czech Republic - Kost Castle. The castle was founded in 1349 by Benesius di Costi (Benesius of Vartenberk) and got its name from the nickname of its founder - "hard as a bone" or "stone".
Over the centuries, the castle has been occupied by many Bohemian lords and has also experienced many turbulent periods, which has left its mark on it. After a sensitive reconstruction in 1953, the castle housed Gothic art from the collections of the National Gallery. Today, the collections of the owners of the castle, the Kinský family, are housed here.
On the obverse side we see the castle from the side view. On the reverse side, it is depicted from a bird's eye view, with the stylized coat of arms of the Kinský family on the right side.
