Detailed description
Romantic castle full of fairy tales
Bouzov Castle is one of the most sought-after sights in the Czech Republic and a favourite location for filmmakers. It is located in the village of the same name west of Litovel in Central Moravia. The foundation of the castle dates back to the beginning of the 14th century. However, its present appearance was created by extensive romantic reconstruction at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The owners of the castle, which was probably named after its first known holder, Búz of Búzov, changed frequently. A number of Czech and Moravian families changed its possession. In 1999 the castle was declared a national cultural monument. Today, Bouzov is a popular location for filming movies and television projects.
The author of the medal Mgr. Petr Horák chose a perspective front view of Bouzov Castle as the motif for the obverse side, and placed the name of the castle in a partial description at the top.
The reverse side shows part of the castle interior, a hall with Gothic ribs, a column and the coat of arms of the Moravian Margrave Jost, who was one of the numerous owners of the castle in the 14th century.
