The Australian Kookaburra 1995
The Perth Mint's investment coins are among the most popular investment coins in the world and have been minted in the purest 99.9% silver since 1990 in various sizes, designs and weights (10Kg, 1Kg, 10 oz, 5 oz, 2 oz, 1 oz, 1/2 oz). As of 2018, the purity of the coins is 99.99%.
The reverse traditionally shows a kingfisher, the symbol of Australia, weight, purity, year of issue and the inscription "AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA". The Australian Mint has changed the kingfisher motif annually since 1990. This increases the numismatic appreciation of the coins issued.
To mark the 25th anniversary, the Perth Mint decided to use the first kingfisher motif by Dr Stuart Devlin issued in 1990 for 2015. In addition to the traditional inscriptions, the motif features a special mintmark "P25" and the anniversary date "1990-2015".
The obverse bears the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and has the status of Australian legal tender. The portrait is accompanied by the inscriptions 'ELIZABETH II', 'AUSTRALIA', the year of issue (2015 anniversary issue only) and the denomination. The coins are supplied in a protective plastic capsule.
