Detailed description
The Australian Kookaburra 1 kg 2011
The silver investment coin is issued by the Perth Mint in 2011 and minted in the purest 99.9% silver purity weighing 1 kilogram. The Australian Kookaburra motif was introduced by the Australian Mint in 1990 and the design of the kingfisher has been changed every year thereafter (with the exception of the 2015 annual issue). An original motif for each issue enhances the numismatic appreciation of the coins issued.
The reverse features the Australian kingfisher (Kookaburra) in the form chosen for 2011 by Elise Martinson. The design depicts the kingfisher perched on a tree stump with its wings outstretched. The design includes the inscription "AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA", the year of issue, weight and purity information, the artist's initials "EM" and the mint mark "P".
The obverse bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, together with the artist's initials 'IRB', which is accompanied by the inscriptions 'ELIZABETH II', 'AUSTRALIA' and the denomination.
The coins have the status of Australian legal tender and come in a protective plastic capsule.
