Detailed description
Start of regular Czechoslovak radio broadcasting - 100th anniversary
This exclusive silver coin, issued in Slovakia and minted by the Kremnica Mint in 2023 in standard quality and weighing 18 g, is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the start of regular Czechoslovak radio broadcasting.
The reverse of the coin features the Slovak Radio building. Behind it, a transmitter with radio waves symbolically covering the Czechoslovak Republic appears in the background. The Kremnica Mint mark is to the left of the Slovak Radio building and to the right of it is the mark of the designer MgA. Miroslav Schovanec, DiS. The inscription "ČESKOSLOVENSKÝ ROZHLAS" is in the description at the bottom of the coin field and above it is the year "1923".
On the obverse of the coin, the composition includes a trio of amplions, a period microphone and a diagram showing the frequency of the sound signal in the background, accompanied by a hint of the propagation of radio waves. To the right of the composition is the national emblem of the Slovak Republic and on the left is the face value of the collector euro coin "10 EURO" in two lines. The name of the state "SLOVAKIA" is in the description at the bottom of the coin field and above it is the year "2023".
On 18 May 1923, the private Czechoslovak company Radiojournal, s.r.o. began regular broadcasting. A turning point in the history of radio in Slovakia came on 3 August 1926, when Radiojournal started regular broadcasting in Bratislava. The following year, Radiojournal established a branch in Košice and in 1936 in Banská Bystrica. The establishment of the Slovak state in March 1939 also meant the creation of the independent state-controlled company Slovak Radio, s.r.o. During the Slovak National Uprising in August-October 1944, the Free Slovak Radio was active in Banská Bystrica. After the establishment of the communist regime in 1948, a unified state organisation, Czechoslovak Radio, was established by a law of 28 April 1948. Centralisation and censorship set in. The fundamental political changes after 1989 were associated with the restoration of freedom of speech in radio. The public institution Slovak Radio was established. On 1 January 2011, Slovak Radio and Slovak Television formed the institution Radio and Television of Slovakia.
