Silver Coin with Rubies - Scarab
A unique silver coin issued by the State of Niue for 2021 and precision minted by the Polish Mint from the purest 99.9% silver weighing 2 Oz represents the scarab - the ancient Egyptian symbol of rebirth.
The reverse of the coin depicts a partially coloured scarab with outstretched wings. Three genuine rubies are set into the ornamented background. The scarlet colour and the rubies are associated with life, restoring vitality and inspiring the search for happiness. The colour application is created using a digital printing technique.
The scarab was a symbol of rebirth in ancient Egypt. It represented the sun's celestial journey across the sky. The beautifully crafted sacred beetles, made of precious metals and stones, were popular Egyptian talismans that in some cases served as currency. In the form of a powerful amulet, the winged scarab was placed on the mummies' hearts. In everyday life, the amulet brought the Egyptians good luck, wealth and protection from evil powers.
The obverse depicts a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley along with the inscriptions 'ELIZABETH II', 'NIUE ISLAND', purity, denomination, year of issue in the artist's initials and mint mark.
