Investment coins minted by the Australian Perth Mint are among the most popular coins in the world. In 2018, the Mint launched the new Next Generation series into the investment metal market. Each issue will successively introduce a representative of a species of Australian wildlife with a motif expressing the arrival of a new generation - a cub with its mother. The investment coins are struck in 2 Oz (62.2 g) Piedfort double strength from the purest 99.99% silver. The fifth coin in the series, released in 2022, features the dingo - a wild Australian dog.

The coin features a dingo puppy with its caring mother on its reverse. The background of the coin consists of micro-engraved radial lines, which serve as both an aesthetic and protective element. The motif is complemented by the Perth Mint's mint mark "P" and the artist's initials "AH".
The dingo is a canine beast inhabiting Australia and other parts of Southeast Asia. The zoological classification of the dingo dog is not fully established and has been disputed since the first sighting by European colonists in 1793. It has been referred to as a subspecies of the common wolf, a feral form of the domestic dog, or as an entirely separate species. The dingo has lived with Australians since time immemorial, as evidenced by cave carvings and paintings dating back up to 800 years. They held a traditional and important position in Aboriginal culture. Dingo puppies were taken from the pack to become companions and protectors of women and children. As they matured, the dingo returned to the wild and the life of a wild dog. The coexistence of man and dingo was harmonious until the arrival of Europeans and the spread of cattle ranching.
Nowadays, the dingo significantly affects the lives and conditions of other animals. It reduces the population of overpopulated rabbits, but also threatens vulnerable species of kangaroos and wombats. On farms, dingo invasions end up with sheep being mauled, and human attacks are no exception. To protect domestic animals, the Dingo Fence, the world's longest fence at 5 614 km, spans a vast area of land from the Great Australian Bight to the east coast.
The protection of the dingo dog is not straightforward in Australia. Individual countries set their own conditions under which dingoes can be killed, their numbers systematically reduced or, conversely, kept in the home.
