Celebrating the Maple Leaf - 30th Anniversary of the SML
A silver commemorative coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2018 to mark the 30th anniversary of the first issue of arguably the world's most popular silver investment coin, the Maple Leaf, which was first minted in 1988. This is the first Royal Canadian Mint coin to feature both the obverse and reverse sides in the Incuse die. The anniversary numeral "30" is repeated in intermittent scalloping on the edge of the coin, separated on either side by a maple leaf. The worldwide mintage of Maple Leaf anniversary coins is limited to 6,500 pieces.
The Canadian Mint mints gold, silver, platinum and palladium investment coins, known as Maple Leaf coins because they feature a maple leaf. The coins contain no other metals, just pure silver mined from silver mines in Canada. The Maple Leaf silver investment coin has been offered since 1988 and guarantees a metal content (in troy ounces) and an absolute 99.99% purity of the purest silver.
The reverse of the coin bears the symbol of Canada, the Maple Leaf. In contrast to the Maple Leaf silver investment coin, this coin features the maple leaf recessed in depth, minted by Incuse. The motif is accompanied by the inscriptions "CANADA", "9999" and "FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR"
The obverse of the coin features a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt in Incuse's sunken minting technology. The inscription "ELIZABETH II", the denomination "20 DOLLARS" and the year of issue "2018" are placed at the top edge of the coin.
