Maya Heritage - 1 kg
A unique one kilogram silver coin issued by the State of Samoa in 2018 in 99.9% silver purity, referring to the Maya Heritage.
The reverse side of the coin depicts an Aztec Eagle Warrior against a detailed replica of the Sun Stone. The motif is created at several different minting depths, creating a perfect three-dimensional effect. The "antique" finish also creates an antique patina. "HERITAGE" and the denomination "25 DOLLARS" complete the Sunstone's rim.
The Sun Stone, commonly referred to as the Aztec Calendar, is a basalt monolith with a diameter of 3.5 m. Its purpose is not yet precisely known, but we do know that the relief markings on its surface refer to Aztec mythology and cosmology. The stone was discovered in Mexico in 1790, under the pavement of the Plaza de la Constitución, which was built on the foundations of the Aztec capital Tenochtitlán. The Eagle Warriors were an elite group of warriors who recruited captives for ritual sacrifices to the gods.
The obverse depicts the national emblem of Samoa below Ian-Rank Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the initials "IRB" and the inscriptions "SAMOA 2018", weight and purity.
The coin comes in its original book-style gift box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 199 pieces for the entire world!
