Castles of the Czech Republic


A set of 10 gold coins issued by the Czech National Bank in 2016 - 2020 as part of the series Castles of the Czech Republic. The coins are supplied without a box and with an individual certificate of authenticity in postcard format for each coin.

Kost Castle

The obverse side of the coin features a composition of heraldic animals from the great state emblem in shields in the upper half of the coin field. In the centre is the Czech lion, to the left of it is the Moravian eagle and to the right of it is the Silesian eagle. Below the composition of heraldic animals is the portal of the door to the castle chapel. Inside the portal in the lower half of the coin field is the name of the state "CZECH REPUBLIC", the name of the cycle "CASTLES" and the denomination of the coin with the abbreviation of the monetary unit "5000 CZK". The mark of the Czech Mint, which consists of the letters "Č" and "M", is at the lower edge of the coin.

The reverse side of the coin depicts Kost Castle. At the upper edge of the coin are the initials of the author of the coin, the academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů, which are formed by the composition of the letters "F" and "Z", followed by the text "HRAD" "KOST" and the year of mintage "2016", which are separated by dots.

Bezděz Castle

The obverse side of the coin depicts the interior of the castle chapel. The inner surfaces of the windows are filled with a composition of heraldic animals from the large state emblem. In the centre is the Czech lion, to the left of it the Moravian eagle and to the right of it the Silesian eagle. In the lower part, the name of the cycle "HRADY" and the denomination of the coin with the abbreviation of the monetary unit "5 000 CZK" are placed in two lines, bordered by dots at the beginning and at the end. The name of the state 'CZECH REPUBLIC' is in the description at the bottom edge of the coin. The mark of the Czech Mint, which consists of a composition of the letters 'Č' and 'M', is to the left of the name of the state.

The reverse side of the coin depicts Bezděz Castle. At the left edge is the year of mintage "2016", which is bordered by a dot at the beginning and at the end, followed by the text "HRAD BEZDĚZ". At the right edge of the coin is the mark of the author Asamat Baltaev.

Bouzov Castle

On the obverse side of the coin there is a detail of the castle wall with an arcade. Under the arches are hanging banners with heraldic animals from the great state emblem. The name of the state and the thematic cycle are placed around the coin's circumference, along with the denomination of the coin. Below the castle wall we find the mark of the Czech Mint, which produced the coin.

The reverse side of the coin depicts Bouzov Castle, including the entrance bridge and the walls. The name of the castle, the year of minting and the initials of the author of the coin are placed at the upper edge.


Pernštejn Castle

The obverse side of the coin shows a detail of a Gothic door with the repeating emblem of the Pernštejn family. The door is overlaid at the top with a composition of heraldic animals from the large state emblem in the shields. The name of the state 'CZECH REPUBLIC' is placed in the upper left part of the coin field. The denomination of the coin '5 000' with the abbreviation of the monetary unit 'CZK' and the name of the cycle 'HRADY' are located in the lower left part of the coin field. The mark of the Czech Mint, which consists of a composition of the letters 'Č' and 'M', is at the bottom edge of the coin.

The reverse side of the coin depicts a part of Pernštejn Castle. The text 'HRAD PERNŠTEJN' appears in the upper left part of the coin field. The lower part of the coin field depicts a bison with a charcoal burner. The initials of the author of the coin Luboš Charvát, which are formed by the interconnected letters "L" and "Ch", are located below the bison. The year of mintage "2017" is placed in the left part of the coin field.

Zvíkov Castle

The obverse side of the coin is dominated by a fragment of the woodcarving of the altar of the lamentation of Christ, located in the St. Wenceslas Chapel in Zvíkov. In the upper part of the coin field there is a composition of heraldic animals from the large state emblem in the shields. The mark of the Czech Mint, which consists of a composition of the letters 'Č' and 'M', is placed at the bottom edge of the coin.

The reverse side of the coin features a composition of two early Gothic poured tiles with a griffin motif and a hunting scene at the top of the coin field. Between the tiles is a shield with a swan motif used by the Lords of Švamberk. In the middle of the coin field there is a collage of 4 castle buildings, from left to right there are the Hlíz Tower, Písek Gate, Hláska Tower and St. Wenceslas Chapel. To the left of the composition is the text "CASTLE" and to the right the text "ZVÍKOV". The year of mintage "2018" is placed under the Písek Gate. The initials of the author of the coin, Luboš Charvát, which are formed by the interconnected letters "L" and "Ch", are located below the year of mintage.

Rabí Castle

On the reverse side of the coin is again the motif of this largest ruin in Bohemia, this time a detailed view of the remains of the buildings accompanied by the text "RABÍ CASTLE", the year of mintage "2018" and the mintmark of the author of the coin, Asamat Baltaev.

The obverse side of the gold coin depicts an aerial view of the castle grounds, during the conquest of which Jan Žižka lost his second eye in 1421. The relief is complemented by stylised heraldic animals from the great state emblem - the Czech lion, the Moravian eagle and the Silesian eagle in the right part of the coin field. On the left side of the obverse side is the text "CZECH REPUBLIC", the denomination of the coin "5 000 CZK", the name of the cycle "HRADY" and the mark of the Czech Mint that minted the coin.


Veveří Castle

The reverse side of the coin depicts the castle core from the ceiling. The text "VEVEŘÍ CASTLE" appears at the upper edge of the coin. The year of mintage "2019" is placed under the bridge arch. The mark of the author of the coin, Asamat Baltaev, DiS., is located behind the text "HRAD VEVEŘÍ".

The obverse side of the coin depicts the castle courtyard through the door portal. In the right part of the portal, stylized heraldic animals from the great state emblem are incorporated, namely the Czech lion, the Moravian eagle and the Silesian eagle. Above the portal there is a stone slab in the centre with the embossed coat of arms of Sigismund of Tiefenbach and on the sides with the coats of arms of Bohunka of Žerotín and Kateřina Meziříčská of Lomnice. The text 'CZECH REPUBLIC' appears in the left part of the coin field, next to which is the denomination of the coin with the abbreviation of the monetary unit '5 000 CZK'. The mark of the Czech Mint, consisting of the letters 'Č' and 'M', is placed in the lower part of the coin field.

Švihov Castle

The reverse side of the coin depicts a view of the castle courtyard through a late Gothic portal. At the left edge of the coin is the text "HRAD", at the bottom edge the text "ŠVIHOV" and at the right edge the year of mintage "2019". The initials of the author of the coin, Luboš Charvát, which are formed by the interconnected letters "L" and "Ch", are located to the left of the text "ŠVIHOV".

On the obverse side of the coin, in the upper part of the coin field, a composition of heraldic animals from the large state emblem in shields. Below the composition of heraldic animals is the interior of the Švihov Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and its altar is depicted in the foreground. At the left edge of the coin is the text "CZECH" and at the right edge the name of the cycle "HRADY". Below the altar is the denomination of the coin with the abbreviation of the monetary unit "5 000 CZK" and the text "REPUBLIKA". The mark of the Czech Mint, which is a composition of the letters "Č" and "M", is placed to the right of the altar.

Bečov nad Teplou Castle

The reverse side of the coin depicts the entire Bečov nad Teplou Castle complex, including the Baroque chateau with its garden. The text "HRAD BEČOV NAD TEPLOU" is located at the bottom edge of the coin. The year of mintage "2020" is placed at the left edge of the coin. The initials of the author of the coin, Luboš Charvát, which are formed by the interconnected letters 'L' and 'Ch', are located at the right edge of the coin.

On the obverse side of the coin, partial motifs from the reliquary of St. Maurus are depicted in the centre. At the top of the coin is a composition of heraldic animals from the great state emblem. The name of the cycle 'HRADY' is located at the left edge of the coin and the text 'CZECH REPUBLIC' at the bottom right edge. To the right of the motifs from the reliquary of St. Maurus is the denomination of the coin with the abbreviation of the monetary unit "5 000 CZK". Below the abbreviation of the monetary unit 'CZK' is the mark of the Czech Mint, which is formed by a composition of the letters 'Č' and 'M'.

Buchlov Castle

The reverse side of the coin depicts Buchlov Castle. The year of mintage "2020" and the text "BUCHLOV CASTLE" can be found at the bottom edge of the coin. Initials of the author of the coin MgA. Josef Oplištil's initials, consisting of the interconnected letters "J" and "O", are located at the bottom right edge of the coin.

The obverse side of the coin depicts the silhouette of the castle, which incorporates stylised heraldic animals from the great state emblem, namely the Czech lion in the centre, the Moravian eagle to the left of it and the Silesian eagle to the right of it. The name of the cycle "HRADY", the text "CZECH REPUBLIC" and the mark of the Czech Mint, which is formed by a composition of the letters "Č" and "M", are located at the lower right edge of the coin. The lower left edge of the coin bears the denomination of the coin with the abbreviation of the monetary unit '5 000 CZK'.
