The Royal Canadian Mint has been minting Maple Leaf investment coins since 1979. The coin was designed by Walter Ott. The coins contain no metals other than the purest 99.99% gold mined from gold mines in Canada.
This gold coin is minted at 1g and has only been available as part of the Maplegram25 set until now.
The reverse of the coin bears the symbol of Canada - the maple leaf. Also included is a security mark - a small maple leaf with the year of issue ending in "20" (can be seen under a magnifying glass). The security mark is made using the laser microfabrication technique used on all Maple Leaf gold and silver investment coins issued since 2014. The motif is complemented by the fineness 9999 and the inscriptions "CANADA", "FINE GOLD 1g OR PUR".
The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the inscription "ELIZABETH II", year of issue and face value.
