Gold Maplegram8
The Royal Canadian Mint has been minting Maple Leaf investment coins since 1979. The coin was designed by Walter Ott. The gold coins contain no other metals, just pure 99.99% gold mined from gold mines in Canada.
The Maplegram contains 8 Maple Leaf coins (the number 8 in Chinese tradition symbolizes good luck, wealth and prosperity), each weighing 1 g, which are encased in plastic with a unique serial number on the reverse and inserted into a blister pack. The coins in the packaging can be individually separated from each other. The Chinese symbol translated as 'MapleGram8' is depicted in the centre of the packaging.
Obverse:
All coins depict a traditional portrait of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the inscription "ELIZABETH II", the year of issue and the face value.
Reverse:
Gold investment coins traditionally bear the symbol of Canada, a depiction of a maple leaf, on their reverse. Inscriptions on the coin: "CANADA", "FINE GOLD", "weight g OR PUR" and purity.
