Detailed description

Fairy-tale castle with magnificent architecture

A unique castle, whose magnificence is recognised all over the world. Since December 1996, Lednice Chateau as a part of the Lednice-Valtice area has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.stribrna_medaile_zamek_lednice

At the end of the 13th century, the Liechtenstein family became the owner of Lednice and nearby Mikulov, and gradually acquired extensive land on both sides of the Moravian-Austrian border. After the Battle of White Mountain, the Lichtenstein family became the richest family in Moravia and their wealth enabled them to extensively rebuild the castle and gardens.

At the end of the 17th century, the old buildings were demolished and a Baroque mansion with a large architecturally designed garden and a monumental riding hall designed by Jan Bernard Fischer of Erlach was built.

Today's appearance of the castle dates from 1846 - 1858, when Prince Alois II of Lichtenstein decided that Vienna was unsuitable for summer festivals and had Lednice rebuilt into a representative summer residence in the spirit of English Gothic. For the spectacular meetings of European nobility, the ground-floor representation halls with carved ceilings, wooden wall panelling and exquisite furnishings were used, unparalleled in Europe.

On the obverse side of the medal, the artist Vojtěch Dostál depicted the most famous view of the castle, which is admired by tourists from all over the world. The relief of the castle is accompanied by a description of the CASTLE LEDNICE.

On the reverse side he placed the coat of arms of the Liechtenstein family, one of the oldest families in Europe, which owned the estate for almost 700 years. The central composition of the coat of arms is complemented by the description LICHTENŠTEJNOVÉ.
