Kangaroo Investment Coins
A classic among gold investment coins are those with a kangaroo. These coins from the Australian Perth Mint stand out for their ever-changing design. This is the reason for their popularity and demand among collectors. They were officially named Australian Kangaroo in 2008. But investors and collectors knew them long before that. The Australian Mint has been working with the kangaroo motif since 1989. The predecessor of these gold investment coins was The Australian Nugget with a gold nugget motif.
Kangaroo Coin Description
Obverse side
All coins depict a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and have the status of Australian legal tender. The portrait is accompanied by the inscriptions ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA and the face value.
Reverse side
Gold investment coins always carry a slightly different depiction of a kangaroo. Since 1989, the Australian Perth Mint has changed the depiction of the kangaroo motif each year as a symbol of Australia. This enhances the numismatic value of the coins issued. The motif is accompanied by the inscription AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO, the year of issue, weight, purity and the Perth Mint's "P" mint mark.
