Jerusalem of Gold Series - The Jerusalem Theatre
The Jerusalem Theatre Gold Coin, issued by the Bank of Israel in a mintage of only 3,600 pieces for the entire world, is the thirteenth investment coin in the highly popular "Jerusalem of Gold" series. The gold coins in this series are issued as investment coins, weighing 1 troy ounce (31.1 grams), with a face value of 20 New Israeli Shekels and purity of the purest 99.99% gold.
Israel's thirteenth official gold investment coin very low mintage! Including a luxury wooden gift box with certificate of authenticity
The design on the reverse side of the coin features the original architecture of the Jerusalem Theater with its typical stone and concrete elements. It shows a view of the front facade of the building with an integrated sculpture above the main entrance. In the coin field, the currency and the year of issue are listed in three languages to the left of the denomination, below which is the mintmark, the Star of David. The description contains information on the purity and weight of the metal '1 OZ. FINE GOLD .9999" in and the inscription "JERUSALEM" transcribed in Hebrew and Arabic.
The inspiration for the "Famous Lion of Megiddo" motif on the obverse was an ancient seal from the 8th century BC, found at Megiddo (Armageddon) in the Jordan Valley. The seal belonged to Shem, a servant of King Jeroboam II, who was king of Israel during the time of the prophet Amos. The lion is also a symbol of the tribes of Judah and Jerusalem. The same lion of Megiddo was depicted on the Israeli five lira note in 1958, the five lira coin in 1978 and the half shekel coin in 1980. Above the lion is the Israeli national emblem and below it the inscription "ISRAEL" in English, Hebrew and Arabic. The obverse of all coins in this series is by Meir Eshel.
Each gold investment coin comes in a collectible gift box along with a certificate of authenticity.
The Jerusalem Theater is located in the heart of Jerusalem's Talbieh neighborhood, near the presidential residence. It is a unique architectural structure as well as an important cultural center. The theatre building is under the protection of the Jerusalem Municipality's conservation authority.
It was built on the basis of the winning design of an architectural competition announced by the municipality in 1958. The foundation stone was laid in 1964 and seven years later, in 1971, the new building was inaugurated with a 970-seat auditorium.
Since its founding, the Jerusalem Theatre has become the largest center of culture and art in Israel. It hosts performances of the best of the performing, cinematic and visual arts. The theater also features performances by musicians and dance groups from Israel and abroad and independent artists, and is also home to the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. Each year, nearly a million people come to enjoy hundreds of performances, whether it's drama with suspense, comedy with laughter, the always popular classics, or modern Israeli plays. In total, around 80 shows of varied interest are staged annually in the theatre's eight foyers.
