GML - Maple Leaf - 40th Anniversary
An exclusive gold investment coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2019 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first issue of arguably the world's most popular gold investment coin, the Maple Leaf, which was first minted in 1979.
The Royal Canadian Mint mints investment coins made of gold, silver, platinum and palladium, known as Maple Leaf coins because they feature a maple leaf. The coin was designed by Walter Ott. The gold coins contain no other metals, only pure gold mined from Canadian mines. The Maple Leaf gold coins are offered in 1/20 oz, 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz and 1 oz sizes, the metal content (in troy ounces) of 0.9999 (24 carats) is guaranteed, differing only on the obverse and reverse sides by the weight and denomination indication.
The Anniversary gold coin bears the symbol of Canada, a maple leaf, on its reverse, which intertwines the anniversary number "40". The background of the coin consists of radial spokes, which incorporates the security mark, a small maple leaf with the year of issue ending "19" (can be seen under a magnifying glass). The security mark is made using the laser microfabrication technique used on all Maple Leaf gold and silver investment coins issued since 2014. The motif is accompanied by the inscriptions "CANADA", "FINE GOLD", "1 OZ OR PUR" and the purity "999.9".
The obverse of the coin features a traditional portrait of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the inscription "ELIZABETH II", the year of issue and face value.
