Australian Kangaroo 25th Anniversary
An exclusive 1 Oz (31.1 g) gold investment coin, minted by the Australian Perth Mint in 2014, was released to mark the 25th anniversary of Australian Kangaroo, one of the world's most popular investment products. The coins were introduced by the Gold Corporation in 1986 with a gold nugget motif under the name The Australian Nugget. The coins were subsequently introduced in 1989 with the classic kangaroo motif and since 2009 have been officially named Australian Kangaroo. The purity of the coins is the highest purity of 99.99% gold.
The reverse shows the iconic kangaroo motif (Red Kangaroo) surrounded by stylised sun rays. Dr Stuart Devlin's design first appeared in 1989 on the Proof collector's issue and was switched to the bullion version the following year to become the first in a long line of investment kangaroos. The motif's next debut dates back to 2012 when it was struck on the world's largest gold coin at 1 tonne. The rim of the coin features the inscription "AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO", the weight and purity of the metal "1 oz 9999 GOLD" and the anniversary years "1989 - 2014". The design includes the inscription "RED KANGAROO" and a special coin mark commemorating the anniversary "P25".
The obverse of the coin bears the likeness of Queen Elizabeth II. On the rim are the inscriptions ''ELIZABETH II'', ''AUSTRALIA'', the face value and the year of issue ''2014''.
The coin has the status of Australian legal tender and comes in a plastic capsule with a limited mintage of only 65,000 for the whole world!
