Australian Emu 2020
A gold investment coin issued by the Perth Mint in 2020 in purity of the purest 99.99% gold weighing 1 Oz (31.1 g). A premium quality investment coin for discerning investors and collectors, the Australian Emu was launched by the Australian Mint in 2018 and has since introduced a new theme for each issue.
The reverse of the coin depicts a pair of emu birds resting on the banks of a river in a tranquil Australian landscape. They are surrounded by the inscription "AUSTRALIAN EMU" and details of the year of issue, weight, and fineness. Also included is the mint mark "P" and the artist's initials "NM".
The Australian emu (brown emu - Dromaius novaehollandiae) is the second largest flightless bird in the world, found in abundance throughout most of Australia. Emus are omnivores, but mostly feed on berries and seeds. In the wild they live for ten years, in captivity for up to 35 years.
The obverse shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark with the initials "JC" and the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "AUSTRALIA" and the denomination. The coin has the status of Australian legal tender.
The coin comes in a protective plastic capsule and is limited to a mintage of only 5,000 worldwide!
