American Eagle - Liberty
American Eagle gold coins are very popular among collectors and investors, especially in America. They have been minted since 1986 in four fractions: 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz of the purest gold. The higher weight of these coins is due to the lower purity of the gold. In this case it is 91.67%. The rest is made up of copper (5.33%) and silver (3%), which improves the coin's resistance to abrasion. The coins are made exclusively from gold mined in the USA.
The obverse of the coin bears the traditional "Lady Liberty" motif designed by Auguste Saint-Gaudens. Allegorically embodied Liberty in a long flowing robe and flowing hair walks in the sunlight. She holds a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. At her feet on the left is the Capitol building, on the right the year of issue. The circle is flanked by 50 stars representing the 50 states of the U.S., with the text "LIBERTY" in the caption at the top. Below the year of issue is a small mark of the artist.
The "Lady Liberty" design was derived from the $20 "Double Eagle" coin minted by the United States Mint between 1907 and 1933. It was initiated by President Theodore Roosevelt, who commissioned the sculptor Saint-Gaudens to develop a design in the spirit of ancient Greek and Roman coins. Despite its age, this design is still one of the most beautiful American coins.
Thereverse side of the coin depicts a bald eagle, the national symbol of the United States.
The motif, referred to as Type 2, minted in mid-2021, was designed by American artist Jennie Norris. It depicts the bald eagle in profile in great detail. The design captivates with its realistic conception and fascinating details. The space at the top contains the national mottos "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM". The description of the coin includes the name of the country "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", the denomination and gold weight information. Stars separate the different parts of the text. The small initials of the designer 'JN' and the medallist Renata Gordon 'RG' are included.
