Exclusive gold coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2014 in top proof quality in the purest 99.99% gold purity. This coin is the third of six coins issued from 2012 to 2017 in the Great Explorers series.
The coin depicts on its reverse the French explorer, founder and mayor of Quebec, Samuel de Champlain, along with an American Indian on the shores of North America in what is now the Canadian province of Ontario. Both are standing by their Indian birch wood canoes. Champlain holds an Astrolabe in his right hand and his journal with maps and drawings in his left hand. Samuel de Champlain is often called the Father of New France, of which he was the first governor from 1627 to 1635. Inscriptions on the coin: "CANADA", the year of issue "2014" on the right, the artist's initials "GG" on the left and the face value "200 DOLLARS" below the design. The obverse shows a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanne Blunt with the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D G REGINA".
